When does the Tenafly Youth Basketball program start?

How do I sign up for TYB basketball programs?
TYB uses Teamsnap and the registration links are posted on our website and the Tenafly Recreation Dept website
How much is each program?
Pee Wee: $135 (includes uniform)
Rec: $190(includes uniform)
Travel $TBD (plus uniform)
Is any equipment necessary?
Your child should wear sneakers, a water bottle, and bring a basketball to practices and games (put your name on it)
When are Travel Tryouts?
For the 2025-26 season, tryouts will take place in late October
All potential travel players MUST register and participate in REC program in order to try out for TYB’s travel program.
How do Travel Tryouts work?
All potential travel players MUST register and participate in TYB’s REC program. During the rec registration process there is a “travel tryout” field and you must choose “YES” to tryout
1st Tryouts: Players are assigned a number; 1 hour of drills and skills in the gym with your grade
Call backs: some kids are asked to come back for an additional tryout (does not necessarily have a reflection of 1st tryout result)

How many Travel teams are there?
There are typically 2 boys teams (A and B) in grades 3 - 8 with 10 kids/team
There is typically 1 girls team (A and B) in grades 3 - 8 with up to 10 kids/team
What is the time commitment?
Pee Wee 1st & 2nd: 6 consecutive weekly clinics on Saturdays starting in January
Rec: 3rd-6th: Practice 1x week (Junior division Monday, Inter division Tuesday evenings); Games: Saturday mornings
7th and 8th: no practices, 1 game/ week (Wednesday or Thursday evenings)
Travel: Practice 2x week starting in mid to late November; 1 - 2 Games/week starting in January
Can I request a friend for my child's rec team?
No requests please. Rec teams are deliberately constructed to be the most competitively balanced as possible. We suggest explaining to children that asked to be put with friends, "it's fun playing with your friend, but its even more fun competing against them."
How many coaches are there?
Typically 2. One main coach and one assistant coach
Who are the coaches?
Rec: Parent volunteers
Travel 3-6th: Parent volunteers
7-8th: Hired professional coaches
Will there be Covid protocols?
There are no covid protocols.
